Hiatus Announcement. I Promise It’s More Worth Your Time Than Shane Dawson.

SO hey, y’all. It’s been a very interesting little while, not always in good way, and I’ve decided, upon consideration, that I should take a one-month hiatus. This is worth explaining, so bear with me.

This will actually be the first time I have taken a break from this blog’s four-times-a-week posting schedule in, quite literally, almost two years. Thebookishactress has been with me since May 2017 and she’s honestly very special to me. I’ve been investing time and energy into this space since I was 16, a teeny tiny sophomore in high school with very few good opinions. I am now a fully grown adult (wow?) who has matured, in a lot of ways.

And yet this blog has stayed a constant. And a good one. Mostly.

Having this blog is a constant experience in my time being demanded; in prioritizing those who want my content. And please don’t get me wrong, I love that my content and my writing is something that means something to others. It’s just that sometimes life is stressful and un-fun and the thing I least want to do is to produce content for others.

Life this year has been… not fun. And I think I really struggle with saying that because arguably, at least part of every single year of my life has been kind of shitty. And as a result, I have learned to make the most of any bad situation! I am happy to report that I am functioning, and that my grades are very very nice, and that my real-life friends are amazing and I’m going to miss them a lot. It’s just that I’m about to get a job, and my home life is honestly falling apart more than usual (I’m tired too), and I would like to continue functioning, and I just honestly think it might be good to have as little responsibility-I’m-putting-on-myself as possible in the upcoming month. As a result, I will be doing some of the following:

  • deleting Goodreads & Twitter from my phone
  • blocking Twitter, Goodreads, YouTube, and Tumblr from my computer for a significant period of the day; I’ve been using a desktop extension called WasteNoTime to do this!! she’s brilliant go download her
  • setting a specific time of day to update my books and boost a few old reviews on Goodreads; I’m going to be attempting to just not be on Twitter at all.
  • sticking to my personal Instagram & my Snapchat for social media, and limiting my time on each as well, although? I don’t know how I’ll do this?

Please do not think this means I care any less about this blog or any of you. I just think I need some time where my default is not putting The Wide Wide World first, ya know?

There is one more post coming up on this blog, tomorrow morning, and it’s an interesting one. And after that, I think you’ll see me at the end of April.

Feel free to contact me on Twitter, though I’ll be taking a bit of a hiatus there too; mutuals, please feel free to ask for my Snapchat. I love you all. ❤

  3. Elise, you truly deserve this break more than anyone! You do so much for the book community and you’re such a hard worker. I’m so sorry to hear things have been rough for you lately, but I’m proud of you for realizing you needed some time away from the Internet. It’s such a good choice to take a step back when you need it.

I hope you enjoy your time off and that it’s refreshing! I’ll look forward to your posts when you return but no rush at all. Take care 💞💞💞

  4. I hope you’ll get to rest and feel better ! Life really can suck sometimes and I completely understand not necessarily wanting to keep up the blog (especially since you post so often, it must get tiring from time to time). Focusing on yourself is so important ! Good luck with everything you’re trying to achieve (the getting a job part !!) ! See you next month xx

  6. Oh my goodness, you’ve been posting on a schedule for 2 years?! I can’t even post regularly for two months! 😂 I’d say you’ve pretty much earned a break, and you don’t have to justify it! I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been to keep blogging on top of real-life responsibilities.

And I have a few more things that I’d like to say, in no particular order:
    1) Congratulations on getting that job!! (At least, I’m assuming that getting the job was a good thing.) Good luck with it!
    2) I hope you get less tired. ❤️❤️❤️
    3) Good luck with everything! I hope this month sees you resting up and rejuvenating yourself and achieving everything you set out to do!
